Circa 1983 a group of five AIA Gainesville chapter members along with construction industry associates gathered to discuss and form a golf tournament expressly to raise scholarship funds for architecture students at the University of Florida. The original sponsoring groups were the AIA (AIA Gainesville), Associated General Contractors (AGC), and the Producers Council (PC) of Jacksonville (since disbanded). Over the years the AIA / AIA Gainesville has become the sole title entity.
The original golf committee was recognized during the Silver Anniversary Tournament in April of 2009. The original mission of the tournament was to contribute 100% of the profit from the tournament to the funding of the scholarships. To this day all profits have been funding an initial twenty thousand dollar endowment established under the Chapter name with the University of Florida Foundation. That endowment is fully funded and the account shows nearly a total of $100,000 in contributed funds.
The annual Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, April 9, 2010 with registration at noon and a “shotgun” start at 1:00pm at the Haile Plantation Golf and Country Club (9905 SW 44th Avenue Gainesville, Florida 32608 – Golf Shop Phone #352-335-0055).
The fees are as follows:
Golf only $60.00/ player
Dinner only $40.00/ person
Golf & Dinner $85.00/ player
Sponsorships: Gold – $600.00 including golf and dinner for four players; Silver- $450.00 including golf and dinner for one player.

We are having a Breakfast of Champions for Senator Steve Oelrich to give him a $500 check from FAPAC for his reelection campaign. Steve and his campaign aide Elicia will attend.
We will meet on Thursday, September 24th, 830a, at the 43rd Street Deli on Williston Road.
Let’s have a good showing to get his respect and attention so when we visit him in Tallahassee he will be favorable to our causes and issues. This is our chance to discuss our concerns in a private venue where we will have his full attention.
Please email Robert Hanselman your intention to attend so he can keep count of how many we will have. The more the merrier.
